F/5.6 75.0mm 1/320s ISO-200

Here’s a photo I took recently, and I’m just curious if anyone has any feedback on what they like about it or what they think would improve it. No editing other than some compression to lower the file size below my instance limit.

If I were to go back to it again I would probably try to use the stem of the flower to split the background between the bush and sky. Other than that I’m not sure, I’m still trying to learn!

It’s nice - the depth of field and focus are good. I personally think it would be more compelling cropped like this: cropped like this

Hmm, that does look nice! I was originally focusing more on the flower on the left, but I like how the crop pulls the second one in. I tend to overlook portrait orientation for some reason when I’m taking pictures, I really need to make myself take more that way.

For me, it’s less about the orientation and more about zooming in tighter on the subject to get more intimate.

Dew drops are no fun when there is only ambient light. You want some direct sunlight and then a clear reflection in every drop. Or at least use a flashlight to simulate it.

I do rely on ambient light a lot, so I’ll have to try something like a flashlight. In this case I was shooting into the sun because I wanted the washed out background, so I’ll have to experiment. Do you think a diffused flash could give the same effect? I really need to take the time to learn how to use them correctly.
