in a remarkably short period of time, the electric vehicle business appears to have untethered itself from Tesla.
Title taken from the article version of this newsletter, but linking the newsletter since that doesn’t have a paywall.
Tesla no longer being the leader in EV production can only be good for global Climate, given that the CEO is a right-wing moron who doesn’t actually care about real solutions to climate change. People getting rid of their ICE cars and replacing them with bikes and public transportation will be the ultimate solution, but good luck convincing Americans.
Wait’ll the photo I attached becomes the big batteries…then try and repeat your sentence about it being the ultimate solution…
The problem is just humans in general…we consume WAY too much. Changing from oil to lithium and thinking it’s good for the environment is just leaning into more lies and lobbying. There is no solution but to stop, and that will never happen.
I want horses and carriages back.
are you sure that you replied to the correct comment?
I just said bikes and public transportation, my dude. Bikes are powered by your legs, and at least where I live, buses and commuter trains are connected to the power grid, which (again, where I live) are powered mostly by nuclear, wind, and hydroelectric energy.
Electric cars are the solution for individual movement, but not with lithium batteries and not with non-renewable power plants. Both of these will change at some point.
I’m surprised they didn’t bring up the anti-electric talking point of “what generated the electricity for those electric cars? Check mate!”
Wasn’t it just last week there was an article on Lemmy stating the demand for ebikes was higher than for electric cars in the first quarter of 2024?
I want to believe there’s a critical mass of competition in the market already, but I think it’s still fragile. They’ll keep making cars but with Musk huffing his own fumes…I don’t think Tesla has a bright future unless they get rid of him.
Tesla has a pretty bad climate footprint. So them hopefully getting removed from market is good for climate, consumers and pollution in general.
Less cars is the way, EVs aren’t the solution.
Yeh, but then the govt can throw the cost burden on the average citizen instead of constructing and maintaining public transportation. The less money they put towards infrastructure, the more they can use for… allegedly, other things.
Tesla was here to save the auto market not the climate
