Isn’t this game like absolutely massive? There’s no way they don’t have the money

The English voiceover is apparently done by an independent studio. MHY pays the studio, the studio pays the actors. Or doesn‘t, in this case.

It’s making millions and millions so yes it’s very big. One of the biggest mobile games afaik.

Definitely massive. Never played it because I assume it’s too micro transaction focused but even more reason to believe they should have the cash to pay their talent

As someone who does actually play it - it’s only microtransaction focused if you get FOMO and like to collect all playable characters.

Usually you can guarantee a new high rarity unit once every two months or so of playing, but the real endgame is just exploring and there is no need to pay anything ever.

Only two VAs making the claim. It’s bizarre but a little strange don’t you think? Is it only these two or is something else going on

I don’t want to jump to conclusions in either direction but it’s entirely possible that people may not be speaking out because it may upset people who could potentially choose to cast them (or not) in future roles.

Definitely possible. Also worth considering they could quadruple the pay for all their VAs and not feel it in the slightest so it’s really strange.

So, Hoyoverse didn’t pay, or studio didn’t pay ?

Did Hoyoverse just blame studio for missing payment ?

Seeing as the studio hasn’t said anything, it’s not looking good for them. In this situation, you really don’t want to be the last one to say anything.

Trash company making trash games treats its workers like trash? Perish the thought!

They’re entirely right, VAs have needed a union for a long time.

I think they already do, although for some reason some VA’s are allowed to just not join the union and still work for some reason.

Yep, SAG-AFTRA. The problem is that certain game studios refuse to work with the union (for a variety of reasons, from minor stipulations of the union contract that can’t be guaranteed, to simple staunch opposition).

Unfortunately the field is fraught enough that there are plenty of folks that need to work non-union sometimes, too. It’s not the kind of job where you can just get hired once and show up for 40 hours for a paycheck. Projects are often short commitments - maybe a few hours at a time. More if you’re lucky. And that’s only after you throw your name into a million buckets, audition for as many as will have you, and hopefully get cast.

If you’re real lucky, you get to do something like Genshin that will invite you back regularly to do voices for events, and you can show up for the work without needing to audition again and again like for everything else. Well. At least until they decide not to pay you for months, that is.
