Imprisoning women for not being able to stop a man who is very likely stronger than them from harming their child when that man is also probably abusing them is fucking insane.
It’s unconscionable. It doesn’t even matter if the woman were stronger. Physical abuse typically comes after prolonged psychological abuse, which can be incapacitating in itself.
We need to take mandated rehabilitation as an alternative to incarceration more seriously as a nation. Many European nations have proven success with its implementation. It’s better for society as a whole.
