Would be curious to hear how this tracks from people who live in these states. Especially if they’ve had experience living other places.

I lived in Texas most of my life, and overall it wasn’t bad, but the politics have gone bonkers. The Republicans are intentionally driving out people they don’t like, but low taxes and nice roads. It’s also gotten unlivably hot in the summers. It used to peak at 104. Now it’s more like 115. Don’t ever go to Houston.

I’ve spent some time in Oklahoma, and I have nothing good to say, unfortunately. A good indicator of how a state is going is the content of their billboards, and wow Oklahoma. You’ve got some fucking problems. “She’s your daughter not your date.” JFC! And the others are alcohol, meth, and gambling addiction.

Actually, OK is fucking beautiful, and OKC seemed alright.

I’ve passed through most the other states on the list, and they’re a little better than Oklahoma. Slightly better roads. Billboards are much the same.

Other states I’ve visited: Idaho, Illinois, and Ohio didn’t seem good when I passed through. Ohio does have Tony Packos (sp), so there’s that consolation. I really liked North Dakota and Montana visually, but they seemed mostly like colder Oklahoma until you hit actual geography. If you get the opportunity, visit Theodore Roosevelt National Park; it’s jaw-dropping. Pennsylvania is mediocre. Beautiful, but the mountains mean that it’s more time and effort shipping goods in. Tennessee was meh. There’s nothing in Nebraska, which is kinda cool.

IMHO, a lot of it comes down to Republican policies. They neglect public services, so their states just rot, and I would never raise a child in their states unless I was wealthy, and even then, no. I’m not “normal,” so they feel comfortable expressing their hatred toward me, even if I’m blending in and they’re not aware they’re disparaging me. Southern hospitality means they’ll be courteous to your face, but they’d still vote for you to be exterminated.

Florida should be closer to the top of the list.
