You know how stereotypical preteen/teens will have outbursts where they’re like, “I hate you! I wish I was never born!”? Well, guess what? I’m giving them all their potential wish.

      Exactly.

My wife, AMAB, had gynecomastia- she grew breasts during puberty, and they were removed in what started as a LOCALIZED ANESTHETIC operation, and when the pain was too much she was put under.

She started hormones years later and fortunately grew breast tissue again, but why did someone cut her up like that in the first place, huh?

      Where was her protection?

Oh right, its fine to force surgery on kids if its cis gender affirmation, but can’t allow them to make any other decisions.

Damn that sounds like a particularly traumatic experience

Yeah… I’m mad about it for her. She just looks sad and distant and gets quiet.

We’re no contact with her parents.

I don’t. I think an uncircumcised dick looks gross. But I’m in favor of not opting kids into a choice they can’t unmake. I’m not having kids, so I haven’t researched the medical benefits either way.

And it’s accurate to say that the GOP gives zero fucks about anything productive like protecting children. Party of fear and hate.

To he fair, no one ever accidentally received gender affirming care because they’d been drinking and got a little careless.

This is so obvious that I am glad someone said it, because it made me realise conservatives are basically implying that it happens constantly.

If they don’t give you at least a little bit of regret are they even your kids?

Additionally, a 2015 NCTE survey found that only 8% of nearly 28,000 respondents had de-transitione

This part confused me, is that not about surgeries?

It is not specifically about surgeries. If someone changes their name, pronouns, and presentation for three months and then decides it isn’t for them, that’s a detransition, no surgical involvement. If someone is on hormones for a couple of years, and can’t deal with their family being godawful and their job prospects drying up because they’re in an unaccepting area and goes back to their old name and clothes, that’s a detransition. In fact, the latter case is the most common kind of detransition, where people have to because of social pressures or lack of support. A lot of those people retransition down the road, when they’re better able to. Almost nobody who goes far enough to make medical changes regrets doing so.

Thanks for the explanation. Makes a lot of sense.

I’m glad that there is a whole process before surgery to figure out if it’s a good permanent choice. If the filter is strict enough, then such risky decisions make more sense.

Getting surgery for trans related stuff is a massive pain, even when cis people fly through getting the same surgery for the same reasons, like getting implants. If anything, it’s gatekept too much.

From a sample size of everyone I’ve met who’s had either that checks out, but the difference really is huge
