It’s almost like if you don’t regulate giant corporations they’ll do whatever the fuck they want

And the one thing they want is to maximize profits. It’s not that they want rivers and lakes to be polluted, it’s that not polluting rivers and lakes costs more money than polluting rivers and lakes. And if the fines aren’t higher than the difference, then they’ll just keep doing it and pay their subscription fee.

Polluting natural resources is a violent crime against all of humanity. It should not be a fine.

Corporations are people, last I heard. Sounds like board members and executives should split prison time between them based on percentage of culpability.

100% agree, however it is also important to keep in mind the many other decisions made by corporations explicitly to cause pain at the cost of less profit.

In capitalist society, cruelty is the point. Happy workers are proven to be more productive and care more about the company’s well being.

The whole return to office debacle proves executives care more about power and abuse than profit.

In conclusion, corporations are people and that means their executive boards should be sentenced to [this comment was removed by Lemmy].

"What an absolute disgrace! We must not allow this travesty to continue!

The Union of Concerned Scientists must be punished, in order to protect our beloved economy and the quarterly earnings of private shareholder portfolio staples like Tyson foods/TSN!"

    -Neoliberals to fascists, probably

But for a beautiful moment in time we created a lot of value for shareholders!

You think it’s liberals who would want to punish scientists for pointing out corporate greed?

I’m thinking you don’t know the definition of “neoliberal.”

Yeah that’s fair, I inadvertently glossed over the “neo”. Still though, punishing scientists for getting in the way of corporate profit seems way more on-brand for modern American conservatives than any other ideology.

It’s not binary, but I agree with your general sentiment.

However, the American citizen has been propagandized and groomed to be corporate bootlickers. To our own demise, we accept the gross negligence of both parties to create reasonable regulation to maintain the balance needed for capitalism to function fairly.

I live down wind of a Tyson pork plant that recently was announced to be shutting down. Our town is collectively pretty sad for all the people losing their jobs, but NO ONE will miss the plant itself. It smelled AWFUL.

Bought their frozen hot wings by mistake and it was awful. I was looking for the Costco wings with the pouch, but I was in BJs and got them mixed up. Don’t get the tyson hot wings. Also Tyson workers were treated really badly during the pandemic and before that their workers wore diapers so they didn’t have to go to the bathroom.
