It depends on the settings of the pictrs server of the instance you are uploading to.

Mine converts all images to webp, and thumbnails images to various sizes for clients to grab.

If I want something animated, I have to make sure it’s already an animated webp to make sure it doesn’t convert it to something else.

I recall it wasn’t working that well, and I wanted to give another try.

I just used the upload image function and picked my local .gif file.

I imagine that it was somewhat fixed on lemmy side
