Sainz had originally crossed the line in fourth, but the penalty will drop him down to fifth, subsequently promoting Sergio Perez up into P4.

Doesn’t do Piastri any good though. Hope he will follow in Lando’s footsteps later this year and win a GP.

As a McLaren fan, I actually agree. I think this could’ve gone down as a racing incident, but he was driving angry and definitely made a mistake because of it.

I was seriously confused how insistent he had been earlier about Piastri needing to give him the place, too. He was stewing about it for lap after lap. Not a healthy mindset, Sainz.

Can Sainz stop impersonating a robot on the radio?

I respectfully disagree. He was driving angry after Piastri passed him. He spent the next few minutes trying to get back past, resulting in his fairly poor attempt that essentially took Piastri out of the race.

Only way to call it IMHO

It was a clumsy move, poorly done. Piastri deserved a podium. Extremely solid racing and positioning, he continues to impress me.

I think Carlos is way underrated generally, but he had a bad day today, and reacted poorly.

I think it’s bullshit because it’s not harsh enough. Take someone out of the race or ruin their race to this degree and I think there should be a penalty carried over to the next race, either grid positions or pitlane start. If they change components that also carry those penalties then the penalty carries over to the next event.

Nah, that leads to overly timid racing. Sainz made a mistake, but the move wasn’t inherently aggressive or shitty like KMag against Hamilton in the sprint.

Honestly I wouldn’t have been mad if it came down as a racing incident, but I think because he was driving angry the 5 seconds is justified.
