Why are the clouds inverted? The cloud shape is black and the moon is visible inside it, but it seems super clear that the purple part has too many sharp edges to be a cloud? Therefore the black shape is a cloud? It’s just weird looking. Also the garbage men seem ancillary.
Weird artistic choices.
I don’t think he has ever explained it. My guess is that he doesn’t want just a mass of black. So by putting a black cloud shape around the moon and purple for the rest it creates a sense of movement and surreal vividness that actually doesn’t exist in the real world.
Rain clouds coming across the horizon. The purple is the cloud against a black sky.
Isn’t it to show the clear sky above, like the whole thing is a foggy dark night. So it’s less of a cloud and more of an opening.
