At first I thought it made sense since Mexico is closer to the equator and gets more direct sunlight.

But then I thought about it more and realized that it should be the opposite, less direct sunlight means it needs to penetrate more atmosphere to get to us and has a greater chance of filtering shorter wavelength light, just like at sunset or sunrise, though not as extreme.

That said, the difference between New Mexico and Mexico isn’t going to be very significant.
