This kind of thing is funniest when you imagine the guy driving home and being completely bewildered about why he’s on a billboard.

I read a similar story recently about a guy targeting his roommate with highly specific Facebook ads, let me.see if I can find it.

Edit: Here it is, it’s a fun read

Haha! That’s hilarious. They sound like the type of people who make incredibly fun friends.

I feel like digital billboards have made stuff like this less fun, if only slightly. The investment and energy required to pay for people to climb way the fuck up on a billboard and paint or glue or stretch, or whatever the fuck people actually do with “normal” billboards makes it all feel a little more delightfully unhinged.

Due to JPEGification, I’m only about 75% sure this is a digital billboard, now that I think about it.

Plus you have to commit to a year long contract for a standard billboard.

It’s not cheap, but it’s not absurd to rent a billboard in a more rural area. You could probably do this for less than $2000, maybe a lot less of you know someone at the company.

I am, however, deprived of the mental image of a crew shaking their heads in disgust that this is the dumb shit that have to put up, LOL.

If I won the lottery I’d book a dozen billboards that say “NOBODY LIKES ADS! Here’s a picture of my dog, have a nice day!”

Or you could pay for these billboards to get destroyed/removed.

(Assuming no one is going to put a new one to replace it.)

They get built on property usually owned and leased by the city/state. The city/state usually owns a about a square mile around each highway mile so they own the land of the side of the highway and let companies build billboards and rent out the land space. That money is supposed to go to highway upkeep, but that’s in a perfect world so who knows where it’s going.

If I still lived in a small town this would absolutely be worth it.

Back before my friend’s dad’s business took off, he had an…interesting…tactic for billboards.

He’d book them under a different business name and then cancel at the very last minute. The billboard company had to sell that spot ASAP or it was “wasted” money so booking it came at a serious discount…for his actual company. The cancelation fee + discounted rate was way less than it would have cost if he just booked it normally.

      Pretty shady but kinda funny.

The person with an 80k truck pulling a 30k boat with 10k of electronics and 5k of gear can afford a billboard for a month for a good joke.

  • Years ago when I was a kid, there was a billboard on the edge of the bigger city we’d do our shopping in some dude put up to find a girlfriend.

One day the billboard was gone. We assumed the dude got a girlfriend. But then 2 months later, there was a new girlfriend billboard lol

I don’t know much about fishing. How does one suck at fishing? Since it’s Minnesota, I’m guessing it’s not physically demanding like marlin or tuna fishing, but I could be mistaken.

      Stream fishing >>> boat fishing

In terms of being physically demanding.

Fishing a steam isn’t just “standing”, it usually involves a fair amount of hiking/walking and and wading. And if you’ve ever tried to walk in a moving stream it’s a lot of work…
