Hi!

I was wondering if any of you all have seen the SILO apple tv series and what you all thought about it. I’m a bit late to the party, but thought it was a fun, mystery, sci-fi show with a cool premise.

“In a ruined and toxic future, a community exists in a giant underground silo that plunges hundreds of stories deep; there, people live in a society full of regulations they believe are meant to protect them.”

As well, has anyone read the book series? Does it have a satisfying ending? I’m interested to check it out, but don’t want to spoil myself. I’m debating just following along as a fun, intriguing, tv series rather than investing into the books.

The books are one of my favorite of all time. I highly recommend them!

I thought the world and the production really great, and the world feels very lived in. Set design was cool and how I enjoyed how its shot. Without going into spoilers, I found the central premise very interesting, and the constant question of what’s outside the SILO and whos pulling the strings quite an enjoyable thread to pull at. I do think it relied a bit too much on dramatic irony for tension, and think that when reveals are made to characters, they fall a bit flat since often the viewers know ahead of time.

I loved Rashida Jones in the first couple episodes, and found her performance really believable. I initially didn’t really like the main character of Juliette Nichols, but thought her characterization really improves with the last 3 episodes of the season.

I was super bummed when she went out to clean in the beginning, because I really liked her in it as well.

I watched the show first. It is good, but with some rushed or contrived angles to be more “screen friendly”. I started reading the book after finishing the season and currently it is considerably better for my tastes.

I haven’t watched the show yet, but I read the books years ago and they’re very worthwhile IMO. Quality of writing and narrative is pretty consistent throughout the series from what I remember. If you read the first entry/novella and enjoy it, then the full series should hold your interest.

I enjoyed it. I could’ve done without Tim Robbins–I don’t know why, but he kind of irritates me, and not in the “love to hate him” way. I liked the mayor/deputy sheriff angle, though I wish they’d let it run a little more. Juliette/the actress who plays her did a good job and grew on me as the show went.

hard agree on Juliette, I initially thought her character pretty weak, but the last three episodes, especially with the interactions with her dad and flashbacks really ironed out her character. I really felt for the dad, and thought Ian Glen crushed his role.

Tim Robbins character had so much potential, he could have been way more sinister. I wish he harnessed some of the energy like Sir Anthony Hopkins character in Westworld, but I guess everyone can’t be that good!

Agreed. And the series is somewhat a different angle of the same story (as described by Howey, who’s been heavily involved in the translation to screen). Highly recommended!

I very much enjoyed the series’ (both book and TV). Overall the book series was very compelling and basically a series of short stories that all intertwine together by overall theme.

I’d definitely recommend reading the books for some more reasoning behind things, but the show also added some stuff that was good as well (basically all of judicial was not in the books and IT largely had that role).

    Definitely recommend both overall
