I actually hit the next level in Mandarin by watching this movie once a day for a month.
Their diction and rhythm is uncommonly clear in this movie and the patterns sunk in after a few viewings so that I could finally understand Mandarin instead of just speaking it.
It was as effective as being in a language class but then every few minutes the teacher would break out in acrobatic sword fights and recapture your attention.
Saddest best movie ever
… Have you seen Grave of the Fireflies?
Incredible movie with a powerful message about what war is like (even long afterwards) - but to say it has a downer ending is rather an understatement. Also downer middle and downer beginning.
Fun fact: the author of the autobiographical letter it’s based on preferred the movie ending.
Oh yeah, it’s based on a true story.I have, yeah. That’s why it’s on my never watch again list. I wouldn’t want to ruin that memory.
Well put.
