In a UN Security Council session, US Deputy Permanent Representative Robert Wood reiterated the US call for Israel to find alternatives to its operation in Rafah, Gaza, to avoid putting civilians at risk.

Wood emphasized the need for Israel to prioritize civilian safety, allow unhindered aid flow, and synchronize military efforts with a political strategy for a lasting defeat of Hamas and a better future for Palestinians.

He condemned the recent airstrike on a displaced persons camp in Rafah, which killed 45 civilians, mostly women and children, and injured 300 others.
