I view it as a good sign that the local bar of where I’m staying ran out of NA beer. I only had two, so it wasn’t my fault.

It’s good to know I’m not the only sobernaught around.

Am sober for 4 yrs roughly. No particular reason. But it feels like alcohol just helps people not deal with their issues and go on with life instead. I wonder if there is any meaningful research how going sober not makes you feel worse but actually makes you feel stuff being wrong and dealing with it.

Alcohol is a depressant, so quitting drinking can help alleviate depression symptoms. Similar to how taking an anti depressant can help with depression. So it makes sense to me that being sober allows you to be in the right state of mind to deal with life’s challenges.

Thanks for mentioning that. From my own experience and observation it seems like people that regularly drink are somewhat ignorant to the glaring problems they themselves and their surroundings face.

Additionally, I feel like a lot of heavy drinkers (had some in my family) do so to alleviate the negative effects of being in a bad situation.

Summarizing our two comments to the best of my ability: Alcohol makes you forget you live in a hole but will make your mental state worse without you noticing. feel free to correct my analysis.
