On one hand - some states are trying to mandate therapists enter patient notes in a creepy database, and this might be a way to work around it.
On the ither: Let’s remember - Dr. Phil “treated” a freshman college student for anxiety and depression. It became a sexual relationship. He gave her a job. All the licensing board wanted to do was monitor his practice for a bit - he just chose to give up on his practice entirely.
He’s been effectively practiced without a license for more than a decade (and the shit he does is fucked up and is probably responsible for disturbed and unhealthy attitudes towards others behavior).
Private “troubled teen industry” facilities essentially work with no oversight. By the time children are able to describe what happened to them - they’re adults and the statute of limitations have long since passed.
Children in the United States are effectively the property of their parents, and there’s a cottage industry of corrective tools. If you want to get enraged at unregistered life coaches, consider how many certifications are required to be a guidance counselor at a “wilderness camp.” (None.)
