Hello, in the last months I habe taken an interest in the journey trans people go trough to be officially recognized as the gender they are and the surgical operations many go through to adapt their body to their Gender, how it differs in different states, and what can be done to improve this. Unfortunately (as you have probably read in the last sentence) I have no idea about anything regarding this topic. Therefore, I am asking if you know any worthwhile books, websites or any other resources where I can inform myself about these topics, preferably they should be in English or German, but I can just as well use a translator if it is any other language. Thank you for your answers in advance!
You could try the gender dysphoria bible. These pages will probably be of interest to you if you want to know about the effects of HRT. There’s also a lot of information about gender dysphoria there as well if you want to know about that too.
Thank you for directing me to these sites, I find the medical side of this very interesting
Thanks for taking an interest in our community and our struggle. I hope you find what you’re looking for.
Hello,
This website has a ton of literature on every subject related to trans people. Take some of the stuff with a grain of salt, since there is some transphobic literature on there for educational purposes. You should be able to find what you’re looking for on here, though.
I really like the work that Abigail Thorn does on Philosophy Tube. She has also been doing her channel long enough that you have her thoughts on transphobia before she transitioned, her coming out video, and one that covers her experiences with transitioning.
Pre: https://youtu.be/yCxqdhZkxCo?si=HFouWSyHF4NO4Oef
Coming out: https://youtu.be/AITRzvm0Xtg?si=wXENhhhc3-ce4lDS
Experience transitioning: https://youtu.be/v1eWIshUzr8?si=RrNue5Ffj-YB35EB
Ah shit. I didn’t recognize her as the same person when I saw the Pre video.
Hope this doesn’t give me unrealistic transition standards :D
Yeah, she put the work in and had great results.
She had also been transitioning for some time before she came out, so you got to keep in mind there are years of progress between the pre and out video.
A good book I liked about it was Trans Liberation: Beyond Pink or Blue by Leslie Feinberg, available here in pdf form: https://transreads.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/2021-12-29_61cca107e2f6b_leslie-feinberg-trans-liberation-beyond-pink-or-blue.pdf
It was written in the 90s so some of the terms are sort of dated but it holds true with what a lot of the modern trans experience continues to be
Okay, I don’t have a single book that perfectly relates to everything you said, but I’ve got a small list of books I that relate to transness and gender as a whole. I’m going to put them in a rough order of “approachability” with the first being a good primer to thinking about gender and inclusivity and the last being very academic and in depth historical analysis. All links provided take you to bookwyrm pages, a Fedi book info and review site.
I’d like to make it clear these are by no means the end all be all of books on transness. They are just the books I’ve read over the last few months. I’m not even sure how the broader community feels about all these books. I am recommending them solely because I didn’t actively dislike them, and in most cases enjoyed them, and they effectively got me thinking about my own journey and trans experience.
Glitch Feminism (a personal favorite)
Thank you very much for your recommendations, these books sound very interesting to me, I will be putting them on my must read list
