Wouldn’t it be better to merge than to compete?
Edit: Looks like the community on lemmy.ml
is pretty much dead.
I created [email protected] because [email protected] does not have en active moderator and lemmy.ml itself is having a tough time dealing with the influx of new users, making the site very sluggish. It’s getting better now, but the point of Lemmy (the Fediverse) is to spread out among multiple servers.
In the case of [email protected], which is different from Lemmy, I didn’t realize it existed because a bug disabled federation between kbin and Lemmy. Were that to happen again, everyone on Lemmy would be cut off from [email protected].
kbin: This is a very early beta version, and a lot of features are currently broken or in active development, such as federation. Source…
[email protected] does have 17 more subscribers, but [email protected] have twice the amount of comments ;)
Edit: Disclaimer: I am the maintainer (administrator) of lemmy.wtf
Yeah, syncing (federation) between lemmy instances and kbin.social has only just started to work (again). I made this list to document which “lemmy reachable” GW2 communities I could find and cross-posted it to all 3 communities.
I hope that at least one will survive, since I’m not intending to ever go back to reddit.
[email protected] is pretty dead, but I don’t see why [email protected] and [email protected] couldn’t co-exist. They are even on two different platforms.
Well, I’m currently subscribed to all 3 and since federation now works with kbin.social I can access their GW2 community just like it were on a native lemmy instance. Which is pretty cool.
It is, until federation breaks again (hopefully not) :P
I’m subscribed to the ml as well as kbin and have accounts in both but I can’t seem to view posts from the ml there alongside the kbin ones. I can see that the ml is linked and I can subscribe to it, but how do I get the kbin to show a merger of both?
Also shouldn’t we link the wtf instance too in the kbin?
Usually you don’t need accounts on other instances to interact with their communities, e. g. my account is on lemmy.world, but I’m subscribed to 3 GW2 communities on 3 different instances one of which even being a different platform (
kbin
and notlemmy
).These communities now appear as if they were on my instance, but are in fact local copies which are synchronized/federated using the
ActivityPub
protocol.Note that these communities are not merged, i .e. they still appear as separate communities, but there is a (pretty popular) feature request for this on
GitHub
.Support for grouping communities / multi-communities #818
I don’t know whether federation from
lemmy
tokbin
is currently supported. I’m only using the other direction. Thanks for the answer and the link ! That makes sense, then I’ll wait and see if there is some traction/progress on the GitHub post!
I thought that going to https://www.lemmy.world/c/[email protected][email protected] would work but that’s the whole point of the request
[email protected] is the one I chose after seeing the one on lemmy.ml being dead.
I think it would be better to stay here, as you said, lemmy.ml has some problems due to the huge influx of players, and the point of lemmy is to spread out, so let’s do that.
I didn’t realize it existed because a bug disabled federation between kbin and Lemmy
Didn’t they temporarily disabled it because we rexxitors were hugging them to death?
That’s possible, I just read something else.
People will follow the content. I don’t think there is any need for merge. All of them can co-exist just fine.

Somewhat off topic but do you know how to subscribe to a kbin magazine from a lemmy server?
You need to search on your instance (
lemm.ee
) for their community/magazine which should produce a link like this …https://lemm.ee/c/[email protected]
… which you can use to subscribe.
Go to search and put in this link: https://lemm.ee/c/[email protected] then wait for a bit and the magazine should show up.
My preferred account is on Kbin.social but I can’t view this community through Kbin. I get a 404 error. I wonder if lemmy.wtf isn’t federating with kbin?
Are there any other kbinners here? I really would prefer to subscribe to all GW2 communities under one account.
Yes
I’ve tried to debug it by creating an account for on kbin.social and trying to access [email protected] and also trying to subscribe to [email protected] from here, but I can’t see anything in the logs.
Well I can’t create an account at lemmy.ml, so I guess I’m stuck with this one here, heh.
Unless
lemmy.ml
decides to unfederate fromlemmy.wtf
you should be able to subscribe to any community onlemmy.ml
using yourlemmy.wtf
account. And it even appears likelemmy.wtf
already knows about the community onlemmy.ml
. Otherwise you would have needed to search once for it (fromlemmy.wtf
) using the full URL.This is your local copy: https://lemmy.wtf/c/[email protected]
I also can’t log in. The animation just keeps going, no matter the browser.
Well, you appear to be logged in on
lemmy.wtf
and you don’t need to be loged in onlemmy.ml
to access (subscribe to) their GW2 community using the link (This is your local copy:) above.Maybe federation (syncing) doesn’t work properly at the moment. Many instances kinda struggle at the moment due to the high number of new users joining the fediverse (leaving reddit).
“Subscribe pending” for almost 15 seconds. But now I’m subscribed. Fascinating in an absolutely nerdy kind of way, heh. Thanks for the tech support!
You should also be able to subscribe to the GW2 community/magazine on
kbin.social
with yourlemmy.wtf
account by using the following link:https://lemmy.wtf/c/[email protected]
Sometimes this takes quite a while and when you refresh your browser window (while the “busy” animation is still playing) the status turns to “Subscribe Pending” (yelllow). From my experience this already counts as a “success” and will eventually turn into “Subscribed” (green) later.
Stuck? :( :( :(
