How well do you guys sleep? My current sleep schedule is the worst it has ever been and I’m not sure how I should go about fixing it.

Currently working overtime and it’s forcing me into a 9pm to 530am sleep schedule

I feel like I couldn’t maintain that if I wasn’t working so much but at the moment I feel great because of it

Same for me, except it’s regular work hours. When the shop opens at 6, 5:30 is the absolute latest I can push sleep lol

Recently I’ve been experimenting with staying up till 11 (re, watching a show) and it hasn’t been going well. I think I really do need that magic 8 hours

    Completely and utterly fucked.

Funnily enough, if I screw it just a bit more I’ll almost loop around and fix it.

I go to sleep around 11:00 to 12:30 PM and wake up 6:00 AM if it is a weekday, otherwise around 8:00 AM.

It’s a mess. But then so is my life, kind of. For things like this, once you’ve ruled out potential medical issues, there’s often some other underlying cause in your life. I’m sure my messy life situation is one for me

Mine IS medical. Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder.
Turns out an eye sensor - which registers the sunrise and sends the notification to the brain - has a factory defect, and as a result my mind and body never knows what time it is, stays awake and gets sleepy whenever it feels like it.

mine’s quite bad at the moment due to outside causes, but after years of insomnia for the past year i’ve actually got it working well, 11pm-8am!! What helped me was a psychiatrist and sleeping pills to get the schedule roughly in place, paired with really strict sleep hygiene (no screens, etc) and trying to get enough free time in the day to have fun and exercise.

trying to get enough free time in the day to have fun and exercise.

I know that’s the real problem for me right now.

honestly more than sleep hygiene, this probably made the biggest difference for me. if i don’t have fun, my brain wouldn’t shut off to sleep; and if i don’t exercise at all i just don’t get tired. you can try all the scheduling in the world, trying to sleep when neither brain nor body wants to is just pointless.

Pretty good. 11 PM - 7 AM M-F. On weekends I’ll stay up later/sleep in later.

I sleep usually from 7 to 8 hours. I aim for 8-9 but sometimes stay up to watch programs live and such. I used to always have trouble sleeping or getting back to sleep… As an anxious person I often self medicated with alcohol. Which as we know makes sleep terrible. Especially on the daily.

And we’ll, yeah it’s probably cliche at this point but I never have been more relaxed, slept better, fall asleep faster, than when I quit booze. And EVEN BETTER, on all accounts when I started smoking weed in the evenings. If it’s legal where you are, I highly suggest some edibles at least, or some CBD of you’re averse to thc. It really does wonders.

Was just about to suggest this. I’ve got insomnia and cannabis in the correct dosage has been the most effective with the least negative side effects for me personally.

    Around 10-6 (2200-0600)

I have two young kids, so it’s a little skewed to keep them functioning. I’ve always been an early top bed person, but as I’ve gotten older, my wake-up’s have gotten consistently earlier.

The problem I have nowadays is staying asleep. A life in the military has made it easy to get up even when I’m exhausted, but tough to settle down and go back to sleep. I find that consistent exercise is critical to my sleep schedule. As long as I exercise, I can stay asleep through the night. If my workout schedule gets off, I have a lot of 0400 wakeups.

This is actually really helpful. I have frequent nighttime awakenings, and it’s getting so bad that I want to sleep a lot during the day. Maybe I’ll give exercise a go, I haven’t tried it as a solution for insomnia yet.

When I’m stressed I can have really bad middle-of-night insomnia. A few months ago it was terrible. I came across an article about some guy who said to only go to bed when tired and to get up at the same time every morning no matter what. It was hellish while I did it, but after a week or so it started to work. Then after about two weeks, I set a bedtime schedule for myself while still keeping the same wake-up time. Since then, if I do wake in the middle of the night, I treat it like meditation (with the idea that meditation counts as rest) and just lay there focusing on my breathing. I haven’t had a three-hour awake time since, and usually it’s not more than 20-30 minutes.

I struggle a lot with sleep schedule and end up tending towards being nocturnal lol. I end up just staying up all night/day to “reset” it and go to sleep at a regular hour.

the important thing is to just try to make sure you go to sleep at the same time each night (once it’s fixed).

Absolutely terrible, honestly. Usually sleep from around 6am-2pm or so. I’m a big night owl in general, but my ideal would be around 2-3am to 10-11am.
