For a simple Twitter clone it has way to much hype. It tastes a lot like Google+ (RIP)
Well, let’s be real: it’s caught on way better than Google+ and is already pretty mainstream with lots of people flocking over in need for a Twitter replacement. Google+ entered into a space that was saturated by Facebook with very little extra value (or none at all) when switching.
Google+ also infected other Google products and basically forced itself onto folks who didn’t even want it, making it tainted from the start. It’s not like Threads is being forced onto WhatsApp users or anything. The only thing that’s possibly going to be an issue is once they start adding advertising, but I doubt that’ll matter much.
The most and perhaps only important thing is it is not helmed by Elon Musk. I’ll keep using it as long as that’s the case.
I mean, Zuckerberg is neither any more egalitarian nor any more respectful of your privacy. Seems like a lateral move if that’s your thing.
I definitely wouldn’t call the Zucc a better person than Elon Musk, but at least he’s not as unpredictable.
This is the biggest value proposition for it at the moment
Yeah but if google+ happened now it’s so better.
Twitter is on its knees and the Google userbase is more cohesive than ever.

What is WireMin for?

It says it’s all about free speech. Not a nesting ground for right wing extremists I hope?
I already have mastodon but always happy to explore new to me options.
Does it use ActivityPub? What makes it different than Mastodon?
EDIT: Not a fan of it requiring an app. It also doesn’t look like it’s open source. That’s a no-go from me.
Being decentralized doesn’t make you immune to censorship.

They don’t need personal information. If the owner of a server doesn’t like what you post , they can ban the account. They run the whole machine so if they really wanted to they could block your IP from even connecting in the first place!
Decentralization doesn’t mean you’re free to post whatever you want. It’s still someone else’s computer, and they make the rules. Federation doesn’t change that. Sure it’s harder to suppress information, but a few admins could easily coordinate against you if they so wanted.
I created a chat space on WireMin and tried, but I can’t really ban a sender or remove any content.
“They run the whole machine so if they really wanted to they could block your IP from even connecting in the first place!” so I assume the owner of this platform is a guard, lmao.
I played with it a bit and, as you described, it does not require personal information to create an account. I saw people saying it is a combination of Mastodon & Session because they have a Discovery section to explore all servers and spaces.
Pretty funny that the Windows ME one has the windows logo in the bin. They knew from the start it was a flop
It’s sadly edited in. Windows Me and 2000 shared the same trash icon.
My first thought looking at this meme was that Windows uses the “recycling bin” OS X uses the trash. My brain picking problems with jokes online… oh how far I have fallen
it s honestly just scary to think if threads takes off zuckerberg will have even more of our data
He already has everything, check the Instagram specs. Threads is nothing new in that regard.
normie* people data
yea that s still more than 90% of the world population
If you do not want to, you don’t have to. It is good 🙂
2006 Windows XP had the best icons.
That’s Vista…
Vista had the best icons!
2006 is Vista though. The one XP used was 2001.
I’ve always said Vista had the best icons.
🧐
I miss the awesome Windows 95 Plus! High color version. It was way prettier than the Windows 98 high color version that is on the pic.
Classic, my man 🤝
Kinda funny how Microsoft went the fuck back to the original but Meta
This illustration is missing Twitter as well, it is not a phase, I’d say it is a ramification together with Threads.
Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, Reddit, Facebook (old school trash at this point), Snapchat, Instagram, etc.
The corporate online space is trash.
Can’t agree no more
Hmmmm… Weapons grade thrash
To Twitter
Why did they decide to rotate the trash can, and then canceled that decision?
Because the finally realized that left facing trash is superior trash
Oh man, this one gets Double Nerd Score!
Pretty impressive they got so many people to sign up with a logo that looks like a kid scrawled it when he was bored in class
Cuz those people doesn’t care about their privacy right, and most of them were using instagram, and love about sharing their life in pics to the word, try to get attention from people

What you got against Windows 2000?
Was incredibly stable and quick when compared to 95 and 98
They are thinking of Windows ME.
Now THAT was a dumpster fire.
It was so bad it was excluded from the image.
Golly, I hope so!
Windows 2000 was rough with some driver support, but otherwise was fantastic.
Last Windows OS that I truly enjoyed using.
