Just received an email that the cost of YNAB is increasing (again) to $109/yr effective August 1 for new sign-ups and September 1st for renewals.

Definitely has me checking alternative options again as I don’t feel like there have been enough improvements since the last price increase to justify another one already.

I love how they haven’t even bothered to try and justify it this time.

https://alternativeto.net/ has some options I’ll be checking out. If you’re searching, make sure to set your filters to narrow it down to your preferences.

Not sure if it has enough of the same functionality, but https://firefly-iii.org/ is self-hosted and open source.

YNAB was a life changer for me, so it’s hard to talk badly about it, but I did move on to something more reasonable once I got my shit together.

IMO people should get started with YNAB, use the YNAB “rules”, and once they know how it all works, switch to something like Budget with Buckets.

Buckets is not as refined, but the price is right. I do bank syncing with the SimpleFIN Bridge option which is $1.50/month, and I have fewer problems with it than I did with YNAB.

Still rocking YNAB4 (even on my Macbook m2) thanks to smart people haha!

Just did my month end bill paying while on vacation with my MBP.

Will cry when this breaks down / people cannot get it working with dropbox/android etc… But so far I’m rocking!

I‘ve been a huge YNAB fan (and subscriber) for over 10 years now, but I find it increasingly difficult to justify spending that much on any app. What are they even doing with that money? I don’t see huge changes to the app, it’s not like they’re producing expensive tv shows or movies. It’s literally just an app and a website that displays a list of transactions.

I switched over to actual budget and host it myself after the most recent price hike and the fact that banking integrations were withdrawn by ynab in Europe, something that actual can do with a free integration to an open banking partner. It’s very similar to ynab 4
