I’ve had major issues with docker upgrades. Just make sure you’re back up somewhere else too. They have fast paced development that breaks stuff occasionally.

Yeah you have to either never upgrade the app/server together or set aside time to read the entire update notes for changes you need to manually make.

I love immich so far but they really need to settle into non breaking changes sometime soon. Or at least add some sanity checks to updates to save users from themselves

      “AI Powered” :/

Exactly what I’m trying to avoid.

But I’ll consider it if it’s opt-in only and it doesn’t nag me.

      • That’s a fair bit of skepticism. In this case it’s justified. It’s used to auto-tag photos, either cats, dogs, people, buildings; or if you manually tag people in some photos it will go through and auto-tag your whole library. It’s all done locally on the server, no calls out to external services, so it’s private. And it works pretty well.

So, yeah. In this case, the ML is useful and justified.

Ok, thanks. So it needs a server, it seems? Can it run as a standalone phone app?

          • It needs a server. You need a server of some sort of you’re synching your photos off the phone. If you’re only looking for a different gallery phone app, there are several good ones (and a few interesting, novel approaches) in f-droid.

It’s tied to a cloud service, isn’t it?

I think it is just called Gallery from f-droid. Its got folder support and you can hide stuff you don’t use. Its basic but has a decent editor and is not network connected.

Edit: its called Fossify Gallery. My bad y’all

If you don’t care about cloud/backup stuff I recommend Aves. I’ve been using it for a few years now

I use Aves Libre, pretty good and powerful, but it doesn’t have its own photo editor, so if you need to crop something you need another app with it

Thanks! I’m giving it a try. I can live without editing capabilities.

I’ve also tried a bunch and liked this one the best, I wish it had a built in crop function but other than that it’s great

Synology NAS hardware comes with a free surprisingly feature-rich clone of Google Photos that stores only to your local NAS (with options to further backup to various cloud providers).

I’ve been running GrapheneOS and haven’t had such issues.

Isn’t GrapheneOS only available on Pixel devices? I’ve been wanting to try it but I don’t have a Pixel.

Yes grapheneOS only supports pixels at the moment, but LineageOS and other forks of AOSP are available for other phones and also tend to not include any google apps at all by default.
