Disbanding monopolies is ‘authoritarian’ like locking up murders is authoritarian.
Criminals and capitalists deprive others of liberty - preventing them from doing so is libertarian.
A similar concept applies to neutralizing the threat posed by tyrannical nation states. Would-be tyrants will call it ‘imperialist’ in their propaganda when the effect is actually an increase in freedom.
The problem is that nuance is hard for people and libertarians just want a blanket “no rules” all the time while not acknowledging that they will never have the biggest stick.
That’s an unfortunately common misconception about lib-left.
Anarchy does not mean “no rules” - that’s the right wing position of Deregulate All The Things, and it predictably leads to chaos.
Anarchy means no hierarchy - rules are created through democratic process instead of by minority authoritarian fiat.Ya’ll might want a rebrand because the literal definition of “anarchy” is to not have any rules. It’s not a common misconception, it’s a common miscommunication.
Learning that ‘libertarian socialist’ was a synonym cleared things up for me when I was younger.
I mean, strictly speaking, establishing national parks and loving nature aren’t inherently libertarian either, so a lot of it should be seen as ‘vibes’ rather than strict policy examination. And authleft in Political Compass memes is better looked at through the lens of effecting leftist change through state action, while libleft is generally put as a more anarchist persuasion.
At the end of the day, of course, our funny colored squares are terribly imprecise and just for fun.
Yeah, I know, I’m just not a fan of how the meaning of words has been corrupted in PCM to better suit the right wing aristocratic agenda.
