There’s a lot of noise with this one. Among the noisiest we’ve seen. Please know that our teams are on it, and like all blowups on Reddit, this one will pass as well. The most important things we can do right now are stay focused, adapt to challenges, and keep moving forward. We absolutely must ship what we said we would.

This was a few days back, but I think it’s important to bring up for the moment. This is just completely convincing me that those running Reddit are entirely out of touch with their moderators and the well-being of their users. Does this make you want to leave or just rub you the wrong way? Have you already left for good or are you still open to using the platform now that more subreddits are reopening?

I’ve personally deleted the Reddit related apps off my phone and replaced them with the webapp for Kbin for now by adding the site to my home screen, until an app is developed and released.

I’m out. I haven’t left for good yet. The time I spend there now is to tell other people about kbin and similar sites. But Kbin is now my main site, and I won’t use reddit for anything other than to move more people here.

That’s a great idea actually. Nice approach on the matter and thanks for spreading the word. I may keep my account just to do the same on desktop. I really don’t want anything reddit related on my phone anymore though. With them forcing the use of their own app and pretty much making their mobile site unusable I’d just have to stick to desktop with ublock origin.

/r/place is expected to come back on the 23rd of June, which is Reddit’s 18th anniversary.

You’ll note that this is also conveniently a week before the API changes go into effect, so I’m planning to, as spez would put it, make some more noise by putting a message right on the middle of the canvas highlighting their bad decision. Time will tell if I’m successful in this endeavor. So far, I have dragged a couple of hundred people and some change into this mess of a plan and The Swarm is going to be backing us up as well, in the manner you’d expect from the group behind the appearance of the black void in the previous iterations of /r/place.

    Afterward, I’m torching my account.

I can try to get the green lattice in on that too, we’ve gotta make some noise if r/place comes back

Are you guys talking about gangs? Because it sounds like you’re talking about gangs… ‘The Green Lattice’

Hahaha I wish we were that cool, the Green Lattice is just a community that formed in r/place in 2017. We build a green and black grid pattern, hence “Green Lattice”.

The Swarm (or as it’s more commonly known, The Void) exists pretty much solely to destroy stuff, their goal is to cover everything in black.

Yea, I’m done. I deleted my 11 y/o main after the Apollo/RIF announcements, and my “main” account after that absolute dumpster fire of an AMA. Honestly, even if they do revert the changes, I’m not going back.

I didn’t have an account that was very old (about 1.5 years), but I’ve been on reddit for over 10 years, close to 15 I’d think. Anyway, all that is to say, fuck spez lol

I lurked on Reddit a few years before i joined. Ended up staying 8.5 years.

I’ve seen Reddit go thru changes, some for the better, others not so much. But this latest change was the one that noped me out.

I love kbin. Still in it’s infancy and I absolutely love it, hiccups and all.

Kbin is great. Considering how young it is, it’s got a lot going for it.

There are subreddits that that my girlfriend and I commiserate over, so I’m not totally pulling the plug yet. But I’m all aboard the digital anarchism train and here for the Fediverse.

I’ve been using Mastodon for a year now. PixelFed for nearly as long. I have a self-hosted Calckey site. If I made videos I’d absolutely post them to PeerTube.

This is what the internet was supposed to be, before it got captured by corporate interests. It’s time for it to come back to itself.

Well put, regarding the capture by corporate interests and the return. I couldn’t really put my finger on why I had been feeling like the fediverse is as exciting and interesting as the early internet I experienced growing up, but I think that is at least a large part of why that is.

Every single thing I’ve been reading about the nonsense Huffman is spewing is more idiotic than the last. I’m done.

I’m probably out. I haven’t checked on Reddit since coming here. There’s only one sub I’ll actually miss, but the bottom line is that I don’t do ads, especially on my tiny mobile real estate (which was the entirety of my Reddit use, via Apollo).

I do pay for services that I like in lieu of, for example, Kagi search and NextDNS. So I find it insulting (but not unexpected) that Reddit would like to have their cake and eat it too by charging for features and jamming ads in the feed constantly.

Kbin is my site now, and I feel even better about that decision when I see how Ernest cares about in terms of the work being put in and communication.

Now that I think of it, I haven’t checked Reddit either since coming here. I really do think once people set foot here or on any instance for that matter there’s a good chance they won’t want to go back. I also feel like, there’s really nothing stopping people from striking up new communities to represent ones they (and others) may have lost, which is great. Also I have a similar approach on the ads, I run ad-guard DNS on my phone and it works with most things, but what it doesn’t work with doesn’t get a place on my phone.

For good. As long as kbin, fediverse, squabbles keep growing (and I expect another huge influx Jul 1) I have no reason to go back.

I’m trying not to go back. I deleted Reddit off my phone and am avoiding opening it on my computer. But, at the same time, there’s not a lot to look at on here, currently. It’s a little underwhelming in its current state, but at least reminds me of the level of conversation we used to have 20 years ago on the internet.

I joined kbin and I’ll be using kbin for the forseeable future. and as a result my reddit usage has dropped. though I don’t plan on leaving reddit entirely just yet. we’ll see how things go though.

I’ve left for good. If I do look at the Reddit website (never the app), I won’t be upvoting or commenting on anything.

Yeah. I can only see myself using reddit if it’s in a goole search or something. I will not be using it recreationally anymore. I find kbin to be a nice change of pace.

Been there for almost 12 years. I’m not going back unless something drastic changes, and even then I might drift between Lemmy and Reddit considering there’s no guarantee Reddit will “be good” in the future.

Yeah, totally understandable. That’s quite a run. As you’ve said even if they were to backpedal and reverse everything- which they won’t there’s definitely no guarantee it won’t just happen again in the future. It seems like they’re using a heavy hand this time, and now they’re even threatening to oust mods for protesting.

Even if they drop everything and reverse this new policy, it’s clear they don’t value the people who create the content they host. After they are public, there’s absolutely no incentive to respect the community anymore. For me, after fourteen years, It’s over.

I was more like a lurker on there, so I simply uninstalled Reddit’s app and removed my fav marker from pc and am forcing myself to avoid it entirely, since what’s happening is rly against my beliefs.
