Gifting food won’t matter if you’re striking for the win, but then why would you need the first strike if you’re alpha striking? Red overrun effects do tend to be bad if you don’t alpha strike, so I guess the gift option gives this card a softer middle ground use of being an expensive combat trick. Notably, this does work defensively, so you won’t wreck yourself like with Trumpet Blast.
