I was diagnosed with cyclothymia years ago. I am usually very stable although on rare occasions I push myself and I become hypomanic. It’s caused by not sleeping at home for a few weeks and my herniated discs start acting up. Bonus if I am social and am having a good time. I have decided to seek professional help so I can have meds available next time it occurs however I’m 14 days out from seeing anyone. For now, it is very difficult to shut down my brain to sleep. I’ve been trying calming music, exercise, meditation and it’s helpful but not enough. I took ltheanine, magnesium, valerian root and benedryl last night and even after that my synapses were firing so fast it took me hours to fall asleep. I’ve been getting 5-6 hours of sleep each night, which is good for me compared to past times.

Any advice? Thank you

Sounds like you are doing a good job of taking care of yourself, you should be proud. Do remember if it ever get to be too much before you can get meds you can go to the ER. You don’t have to check into the pych side unless you want or think you need it. I’ve had to do this my wife before and they gave her something that helped calm her down. I struggle with hypo mania at least once a year and it truly awful. I really hope you can get the help you need.

Thank you so much. I have considered going to urgent care but I’m worried they won’t really help me and Ill just be paying an expensive bill for not much. I do feel better as each day goes by, so I probably won’t at this point.

300mcg melatonin is the recommended dosage to be effective and not have extra side effects. Higher dosages aren’t any more effective. I can’t take it very long or i start to feel some melancholy.

Sleepy time tea helps, listening to not that entertaining of audiobooks, meditation, reading wikipedia. Some people don’t react to benadryl in the intended way.

Ive been back to normal for quite a few days now! What a relief. Still got the appt and going to have a complicated conversation with the doc. Since I have celiac disease and possibly gotten glutened that could of been a trigger. Thank you so much for checking in!!
