    "Crew members of the tanker who helped in the rescue told TV Asahi that they shouted to the woman not to give up as she bobbed up and down in waves that were about 2 meters (6.5 feet) high. Two of them jumped into the water and tied a rope around the woman, while other crew pulled her up to the tanker, they said. "

    Imagine hitting those swells in an inflatable ring after 36 hours out there. Yikes!

    I’m guessing (without reading) there was a lot of luck there, like no rough seas. We all float better in salt water but 37 hours floating/treading water is impressive regardless of the conditions.

      I don’t know that 37 hours of drifting in a swim ring in the middle of the ocean would be interesting. Terrifying, sure, but also just mind-numbingly boring after a while. Just waiting there to either be rescued or die. And obviously she wouldn’t want to hurry things along in case rescue came, so she just had to float there. For 37 hours. Hoping it wouldn’t be her last 37 hours. No one wants a slow and lingering death.
