The whole thing is just light gray. I’m on mobile Firefox and did not have this problem last year.

I’ve seen this occasionally. Refreshing/reloading helps. Hope it helps you.
One time, my camera/view position in the URL was way off, like, outside of the bounds of the canvas. Maybe navigating to the plain canvas.fediverse.events site will help. If not, make sure that you do not have any JavaScript disabled.
If you can’t see any buttons etc. either, this is because you have WebGL disabled. I use Cromite to access canvas on mobile, with WebGL specifically enabled for the canvas website.
