This be somewhat of a stupid question but is there an exact speed limit for the fast lane on the highway? I was hitting 20 higher to 50 over. Though even if a police officer saw me driving too fast in the fast lane. Will they pull me over just for the speed or will it also matter at the handling of the car. Since like if I was changing lanes I’d do a really long sway to the side unless I have to sharpen it. Then I barely have to move my steering wheel and one hand while keeping it perfectly steady at 100 mph. It felt the same as going 40-50 mph to me.

As a truck driver on the nation’s roads for twenty years, I have to say this is exactly the kind of mushbrained nonsense I imagine lives in the heads of average Indiana drivers.

True, but having driven in L.A. for years and having experienced the hellish thing that is driving in Atlanta, never have I experienced more inconsiderate and dangerous drivers than I have since I moved to Terre Haute about a decade ago.

Almost no one ever uses their turn signals. It’s kind of incredible. It’s like someone breaks into everyone’s cars and secretly steals the signal lights, because so few people use them that it almost seems intentional.

And pretty much every day there’s a story about someone dying on our roads.

I thinks it’s more common here because what do we have mountains and a trail no. We have corn and fields.

Did I read that right? You went fifty miles over the speed limit?

    Don’t do that.

The number of the posted speed limit, in miles per hour is the maximum speed in miles per hour that you are legally allowed to drive your vehicle , regardless of the lane you occupy.

Have you considered becoming a wealthy race car driver? That way you could hire a driver for your limo, and stop endangering everyone else on the road. ;-)

Yeah I know that one but I understand many people adopt certain rules like highway has highway speed and more.

Trust me if I could hire a driver I may. Though I need to deeper my foot holding in a few areas.

    Is this a serious question?

Certainly you had drivers Ed, had to take a test to get your license?

    100mph?? Please, stop driving.

(The sway you experience is because you’re over-correcting, after changing lanes too quickly, clearly you need some more time practicing how to drive - you’re an accident waiting to happen).

Edit: forgot to say the speed limit is the speed limit. There’s no separate speed limit for different lanes.

No you misunderstanding. The way is on purpose. When I’m enough ahead of someone I saw slowly to the side. I was just never taught this or at least remembered being taught it.

Sway is from changing lanes too quickly. Or you’re doing something. Or something wrong with the vehicle.

Why is it dangerous to go 100 whenever I pulled behind someone I slowed until they moved over. I wasn’t going straight 100.

That you don’t even understand why this is dangerous explains why you shouldn’t be driving.

No one cares if you decide to kill yourself in a car, we’re just concerned you’ll hit a car carrying a family with two small children and kill them too.

Don’t do that. Very unsafe, for both you and other drivers out there.

Edit: From my understanding, you’re allowed only an extra 5 miles per hour in the fast lane, just enough to safely pass other vehicles.

You’re not “allowed” any speed greater than the limit.

If a cop decides to not pull you over for speeding in the passing lane, that’s up to his discretion.

If a cop is missing his quota targets for the month, and you’re speeding to pass, you’re getting a ticket. (And yes, cops do have quotas, they just aren’t called that anymore. Source: police in family).

Well, at least in Mississippi, the Interstate speed limit is 70mph, but in the passing lane 75mph is perfectly legal.

Of course I’m sure this totally depends on the state…

Again, I’m not a legal expert, but I think this is common amongst many of the states in the USA.

Refer to your own state’s laws and regulations on driving, and get a study guide from your local DMV in your state.

That’s very interesting can I ask do you know where the social laws come into play. Since I see like unwritten highway areas. Up near Plainfield. Then like this ppl go 10-20 I just decided to go 40-50 because I had a handle on the situation. Also everything seems quite slow for me.

I don’t know what your level of legal driving instructions and training are, nor am I a legal expert.

I suggest you go to your local DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles), and simply ask for a study guide. They should have one on the ready for anyone that asks.

There are plenty of reasons they make such rules and regulations, main reason is to keep people (and bicyclists and pedestrians) safe.

I know it can be tempting to get wherever you’re trying to go faster, but not only is it illegal, it’s not safe either.

“Everything seems quite slow for me”

You sound like me when I was 16 and just started driving.

The rules of the road are to reduce risks. Like something unexpected happening in front of you.

I mean something did but at like 60-70 mph. There was like big debris and I hit it nearly straight on at 70 mph. Nothing happens or changes. I just keep it straight.
