i realize this is sort of an oddball post, but thought I would put it out there to see if anyone has any advice… I posted a couple of weeks ago, requesting advice for a controller… after reading the many responses (thanks to the community!) I went with the cheapo $30 8bitdo wireless option. I finally got my dock for the deck yesterday and hooked it up. I played a little Chained Echo, then decided to try Super Metroid through emudeck. I got it working just fine… except for one big issue… When you hit start to bring up the map… it brings it up like it should… but when you press start again to go back to the game, it doesnt recognize it. If I go out and check the controller, to make sure the start push is still mapable (to make certain it is still functioning) it recognizes it just fine… but in the game, it only seems to work once.

Is there something I am overlooking with this? Do any of you guys out there have any advice?

i tried to replicate this with super metroid on my steamdeck with 2 of 8bitdo’s products and was unable to get it to fail in the same fashion. IMO, it might be worth making sure emudeck (more specifically retroarch) is up to date and that your controller firmware is also up to date or where it should be (8bitdo can have multiple good firmwares depending on what you need it for).

also it is worth noting that retroarch does not like controllers being fiddled with too much

Slightly off topic, but do you ever have any issue bringing up the retroarch menu on your Deck (installed via emudeck)? Sometimes pressing start+select just freezes the program for me. I’ve noticed this when playing Super Mario World for example. Other times it works fine.

i have start and select as a quit binding (i think its default?) so i guess in a way it always freezes on me but no not really not like that. about the only issue i have is wanting to change controllers or putting the deck asleep while using a bluetooth controller and retroarch not accepting inputs afterwards

Ah wait I’ve got it mixed up - pressing down both sticks brings up the retroarch menu, but it also makes it crash sometimes…

Still, no not really. maybe check your emu deck install and make sure it’s installed correctly
