I misread that as “morons”, but that tracks, too.
For those who are not informed about how the Mormon church came about, here is a factual telling of what happened. Just so happens to be from the storytellers of SouthPark. (They grew up Mormon.) And if you’re wondering how I know this to be true… I spent over 19 years in it.

Mormons? It was Puritan Separatists who moved here first. Mormonism wasn’t even founded until 1830.
Besides Utah was literally named after the Ute tribe. I’m pretty sure they knew whose land they were stealing.
The comic is about Utah, specifically, not Massachusetts. Utah was handed to the United States from Mexico as part of the settlement of the Mexican-American War. But settlement in Utah was slow compared to California and the Pacific Northwest, because Utah does not have the gold and fertile land that those other places had. The Mormons moved from the east coast to Utah specifically because Utah was “unorganized territory”. This meant they could do stuff like polygamy without a lot of interference.
