In my civil war history class I got so worked up hearing about McClellan that I raised my hand to ask if he was secretly a Confederate sympathizer.
I now know better… People can just be really bad at things.
Imagine being so bad at your job that 150 years later people muse that your performance was indistinguishable from a double agent trying to sabotage your own side.
It’s a shame - McClellan whipped the Army of the Potomac into a real fighting force, and then proceed to do absolutely fuck-all of value with it. One of those “Right man, wrong place” deals.
Until I saw how limp wristed we can be with insurrectionists, it was difficult to believe.
