In a statement, Hamas claimed several reasons for its decision: the new conditions and demands presented recently by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and recent Israeli airstrikes in Gaza that killed dozens of Palestinians, many of them civilians.

“In light of this, and out of concern and responsibility towards our people and their interests, the movement calls on the mediators to submit a plan to implement what they presented to the movement and approved on July 2, based on Biden’s vision and [UN] Security Council resolution,” Hamas said in its statement.

The group said additional rounds of negotiations or discussing new proposals “provide cover for the occupation’s aggression.”

Israel hasn’t even bothered showing up to these ceasefire talks, while HAMAS offered to permanently disband. Why bother negotiating against yourself when the other party doesn’t even show up?

Isn’t that exactly what israel are looking for.

I mean the problem is Hamas would likely not make palestine a democracy, but you can’t win everywhere.

Maybe on paper. IRL, they want that land, and they’ve determined that they’re done killing a little at a time to get it. There are already plans to redevelop the newly occupied parts of Gaza. I wonder if they’ll even bother digging the bodies out of the rubble or just pave over it all and have done. There’s a reason why Nettanyahu funneled millions to HAMAS. The worst outcome for him, politically, is a two-state solution. He needs an excuse to commit genocide and get the rest of the land. That’s partly why they weren’t interested in HAMAS laying down arms; it’s counter to their goals.

Were it so easy. Israel isn’t a monolith. Some parties would be okay with a 2 state solution, others demand keeping the status quo, others want Palestine gone. There’s also the issue that if peace with Hamas is achieved Netanyahu’s personal situation becomes far more jeopardized.

Personally, I think a 2 state solution withdrawing Israel to the OG green line with a UN Security Council enforced peace agreement between them is the acceptable solution but I’m not holding my breathe.

This reads more like Hamas saying Israel has already agreed to some terms, and wants to see action. I don’t blame them for rejecting more talks if there’s no action.

Also, I can’t stand this article format.

No it doesn’t read like that at all. Anyone following this event would know it’s because Israel constantly keeps sabotaging the peace talks and wants them to lead no where.

“Stop bullshitting me” - Biden. Even this genocide supporting clown understands Israel is fucking this up.

Yeah, I’m not a big fan of Axios either, but in this case, it seemed like an okay source.

Netanyahu is a criminal and a failed leader for Israel. Get rid of him and your problems are fixed.

Couldnt agree more, but lets erase Hamas first.

Netanyahou is like fever, it’s bad and a pain, but it is a normal biological reaction in order to erase virus or bacteria. Once the disease has been cured, we can get rid of the fever.

        No.

Israel predates Hamas, the Israel problem Palestinians face will not go away if you remove the symptom (Hamas).

Israel literally funded Hamas and allowed them take over Gaza to stop the PA getting voted back in.

          Netanyahu does not predate Hamas.

Netanyahu is not the cause of Zionist supremacism, he’s just one in a history of its followers.

And Hamas is not the first Palestinian terrorist organization, merely the latest.

Nevertheless, either Israel and Palestine learn to look past their respective histories or they can keep fighting forever.

                No.

Israel is the invader, a colonial state not even 100 years old that’s been engaged in genocide since day one.

You telling the Palestinians to look past Israeli genocide is like asking Jews to look past Hitler during the holocaust.

If Palestinians can’t, then they will keep fighting and dying. There is no other way out. They cannot defeat Israel, and rest of the world isn’t going to save them.

Why are they not being destroyed en masse anyway? They shouldn’t be able to say anything because they’re too busy pushing up daisies. When a people group is just evil we shouldn’t look for how they respond to certain demands we (as a planet, not necessarily our country) should focus on just preventing their ability to breathe. They’re useless and we’re better without them.
