My understanding is that it’s the same game, but with “Aternum” slapped onto the name. Oh, and that it’s releasing for consoles.

I’m disappointed that they didn’t return to one of the original concepts of the game that was axed before public release. The game was designed around open world PvP. It made gathering resources for crafting a challenge. When you died, you’d drop what you had farmed, but not your gear. So ganking was a less reliable alternative to farming.

As someone who played EVE Online for years, this cat and mouse resource gathering aspect makes a lot of sense in games. It’s the kind of thing PvE oriented players will complain about, but it adds a ton to the game. It needs to be balanced between the gatherers and the hunters, but the gatherers wanting things easier is very much like the “fast travel problem”. People always want their characters to be stronger, loot to be easier, travel to be faster. That’s understandable, because the player’s goal is to beat the game. But if you just help them beat the game, there’s just not much to the game. As the developer, part of your job is to understand the difference between problems that need to be fixed and players just whining that they want “winning” to be easier. Sometimes that line gets blurry, but most people don’t have a clear idea that the line exists at all.
