Ok you just connected the dots for me.

    1. A friend argued Trump’s speaking is identical to Hitler’s AND a typical stand up comedian monologuing. Basically, the idea is you tell the people what they want to hear, but to figure out what they want to hear, you have to let your train of thought go crazy, then as the crowd wildly reacts, you change the path of the train to go that route to build up support.
    2. Trump supporters are morons
    3. Trump supporters think he’s good at speaking
    4. Trump supporters hear his rambling nonsense, but TO THEM all political speeches sound like rambling nonsense.
    5. Trump supporters hear the things they understand, and think that he is talking about things they care about.

That’s the crux of the entire thing. And honestly, many of these people don’t believe anything out of their own mouths. Obamacare’s bad, but the ACA is good. They quite literally do not use dictionary definitions of words, so they just get to feel however they please. You can prove it easily. Ask any American if they think the workers or the managers should get raises from profits. No one will say managers. Yet 99% of those same people will say populist socialist policies are the worst things to ever grace the earth.

A friend of mine is a big time Trump supporter. He says “Trump is the best speaker in the history of the United States”. Showed him a written “speech”(one of Trump’s incoherent ramblings) and he couldn’t say a single word back, just chuckled at me and walked away.

Why are you friends with this person? How do you not just find him impossible to even be around?

Different person, but I also have a trump supporter friend. We get along in so many other ways that we separate for about 15 minutes and come back to start bullshitting about other stuff. I’m also working to deradicalize him, but it’s difficult since we don’t see each other often. We’ve been friends since we met each other in middle school, a relationship like that doesn’t just end.

          Ah, see, there’s your how:

We get along in so many other ways that we separate for about 15 minutes and come back to start bullshitting about other stuff

My experience is they so adamantly refuse to listen to anyone about anything there’s no point in trying to talk to them about anything at all. Quite different.

Good luck saving your friend. It’s good to know there are still some people who might be brought back from the precipice, even if I have yet to meet any of them.

We get along pretty well outside of Drumpf. He knows my views and I know his. We don’t let it fuck with our friendship and we respect each other’s views. We do fuck with each other often for laughs. We don’t need to be enemies with others who have different views, that’s not going to help anyone.

That’s good news, I just don’t understand how haha! As to making enemies of people, I want to be friends with everyone. I cannot be friends with neo-nazis or fascists, and I’d argue that anyone holding those views has chosen to make me their enemy (though it’s not a label I have a problem with, from that crowd).

That’s not what I was implying at all. I was implying that this person is likely made up, or maybe this interaction was just totally made up.

Lol. Why? What makes it sound that way? It actually is real, btw. I have no reason to make it up. My across the street neighbor (who is a very good friend, too) is actually a massive Trump supporter. It’s ok to be friends with others who have different political views, I promise. Don’t be bitter

You’ve now, twice, even after me explicitly telling you that it’s not what I said nor meant, completely fabricated a belief of mine … While trying to prove you’re not fabricating this event.

You’ve got no reason to lie about what I’ve said …but here we are.

Doesn’t take enlightenment, just a decent amount of objectivity and critical thought. The real trick is realizing when you’re guilty of it. That’s when you become enlightened.

      Folks, “BoTh SiDeS”!

I support Bernie Sanders, because he has literally spent his entire life fighting for equality and working people. You know what I don’t have? Tattoos of him on my body. I didn’t pay to install an industrial flagpole at my house. I don’t wear his merch. I don’t drive around with a Bernie flag trailing from my vehicle. I don’t inject him into every conversation. Bernie Sanders is not my entire identity. That’s the difference…

The meme isn’t about the sort of hero-worship that Trump is receiving, which is a phenomenon unique to Trump. (Republicans didn’t hero-worship their candidates until he came along.) Rather, the meme is about people who have strong opinions about things they don’t understand, and these people include supporters of Bernie Sanders.

How much money should the government allocate towards cancer research? Do Starlink satellites create a dangerous amount of orbital debris? Would experiments with geo-engineering to mitigate climate change be worth the risk? Is Biden’s economic policy responsible for the recent high inflation? Are the acts Trump is accused of actually crimes?

These are questions that even most experts can’t confidently answer but I recall them being discussed on Lemmy recently by people who were very confident about the accuracy of their uninformed opinions. I do that sort of thing sometimes too, despite my attempts to catch myself.

The Seuss-thing is clearly wearing a MAGA hat, let me know when you have a clearly identifiable clothing or logo that can also somehow lump in all those categories on ignorance.

Like are people that say Trump is literally a felon wrong? Are people that say climate change isn’t real wrong?

Maybe you should go read a book if you aren’t sure on some of these topics, instead of JAQing off in everyone’s face.

    AI helped me with this:

Got it! Here’s a humorous poem titled “Loud Opinions About Things I Don’t Understand” in the style of The Cat in the Hat: Loud Opinions About Things I Don’t Understand

In a world full of chatter, oh what a sight, People shout their opinions with all of their might. From politics to pizza, they’ve got something to say, But I sit here confused, just scratching my head in dismay. “Oh, did you hear?” says a man in a hat, “About the latest craze? It’s all about that!” He rants and he raves, with a voice loud and grand, But honestly, folks, I don’t understand! There’s a lady in pink, with a phone in her hand, Posting memes and hot takes, isn’t it grand? “Like, share, and retweet! You must take a stand!” But I’m lost in the noise, I just don’t understand. A group gathers ‘round, with their signs held up high, “Save the turtles! No straws!” they all cry. But wait, what’s the fuss? I just want to eat, A burger and fries, oh, isn’t that neat? Then comes the fellow, with a beard and a grin, “Climate change is real! We must all pitch in!” But while he’s on fire, with facts he demands, I’m just here thinking, “I don’t understand!” Opinions fly by like balloons in the sky, Some make me laugh, while others make me cry. But here’s what I know, as I take a stand: It’s okay to be lost, it’s okay not to understand. So let’s share our thoughts, let’s give it a try, With laughter and kindness, we’ll reach for the sky. For in this big world, with its loud, crazy band, We’ll find common ground, even if we don’t understand!

Feel free to adjust any lines or themes to better fit your performance style! Enjoy your show!

I told it I would be performing at a show. Otherwise it wouldn’t give me the bit.
