Hey, sorry if this is the wrong place to ask. Can anyone explain to me why one of the largest and most active Lemmy communities is about an Australian children’s tv show?
It’s an awesome show. It’s seriously one of, if not the best kids show to come out…ever? I know it sounds like I’m exaggerating but it’s seriously great. It’s hilarious, poignant, has good messages for both kids and parents, both kids and parents really enjoy it, totally wholesome… I dunno what else to tell you. It’s amazing programming. As a 40yo parent I routinely laugh and cry at this show. Occasionally at the same time. The parts that make me cry often manage to make me cry again on re-viewing (which honestly is not fair! C’mon!). I don’t know how much traction it gets outside of people who have kids though. Also it’s on Disney+ so it’s able to reach a lot of people.
I think the big appeal is that it’s not a kids show - make no mistake the target audience is kids but it doesn’t treat them like they are dumb and its not condescending so it appeals to an older audience. Struggles that don’t tell kids the world is perfect, parents know everything and society is always on your side. They cry for things that are worth crying about, talk to (character) kids like they are people/dogs, and show how parents also struggle being parents.
I also wanna point out that we’re putting in the work here to keep posts coming to the sub. With the way Lemmy works, keeping posts going through will get visibility in the local and all views, and get subs.
We’re honestly not all that big, though we might be one of the biggest communities for a TV show on Lemmy.world at the moment. Mostly because we’re in a lull of prestige TV since the Lemmy migration.
Others have covered the main points, but I’ll also point out it’s also one of the most streamed shows in America. 7-minute episodes make it really easy to pickup and put down.
Honestly, it is hard to explain. It is a fantastic show! I don’t like kid’s shows, but Bluey is not a kid’s show. It is a family show. I don’t have kids and I find the show to be beyond entertaining. It has fun and interesting plot lines with some really beautiful stories that they tell. It shows the magic of learning about the world around you — something that ideally never really stops. As adults we just stop appreciating it sometimes. The only way to really understand it is to watch it. You don’t need to have kids or younger relatives to watch this show with, you can definitely watch it on your own for yourself. I say this as a twenty-something with no kids.
Alright, I gotta jet off. I am trying to unbrick my phone. )=
Thanks for stopping by, though!
Now this is a high quality meme!
