Seconding. Reading the other less-effusive comments has been interesting because I feel quite strongly about it. It was I think $600 when we got it and it was so difficult to stomach spending that kind of dough on a fucking litter box but now I’d drop it again in a heartbeat if anything ever happened to this one. That said, I also have three cats and now one of them has hyperthyroidism so we have to dump it every day and a half or so. It’s so often but I cannot imagine doing it with a regular litter box.

Unfortunately it’ll probably teach her the wrong lesson.
I’m good at it. But, at the same time, I live in a pretty diverse area and I’ve met plenty of people who are clearly not super comfortable with it. So it’s an interesting balancing act to do it enough to be showing respect but not so much that I creep them out. Mostly I take my cues from their own eye contact levels.
I just finished the third book in a trilogy that I thought was kind of mediocre. But I thought the first book was good; it’s just that the last two didn’t live up to it. The ending was okay, but the middle was a mess. Wish I’d just read a summary now but whatever, it’s behind me.
proudblondto Ask Lemmy•Is it possible for an neighbor's apartment to have mice but not mine?English3·19 days agoWhen we moved into our house, we had two cats and kept finding mouse droppings. (The house had been flipped after belonging to a hoarder.) Lived there for two months and the cats did nothing and we still had mice. Got a dog and suddenly no more mice…
proudblondto Ask Lemmy•What is the best, and conversely, the worst wedding you've ever been to, and why?English1·19 days agoSurprised they made it that long. I guess a kid would complicate breaking up.
Knitter here. I’m literally making clothes! Yes a sweater takes months but you know… also good for meetings.
Sorbet!
proudblondto Ask Lemmy•My combat boots lasted 4-years. Is that reasonable given hard use?English34·22 days agoAm I reading correctly that nothing is wrong with them except the tread is worn down? See if there is a shoe repair shop near you. Cobblers can usually replace tread. That way you’re not falling whim to capitalism, keeping something out of the landfill, and you don’t have to break in a new pair.
Haha I have, at least if I’m thinking of the right thing, the YouTube video? He stretches a few (my degrees are in music theory so I can hear what he means and not all of them are exactly the same chord progressions) but I feel seen nonetheless.
Yeah, I feel for the string players, honestly. Especially the ones who take wedding gigs.
Gonna go against the grain here with something classical: Pachabel’s Canon in D. I liked it when I was a kid, for at least the first 10 or 20 times I heard it, but since then I’ve probably heard it thousands of times, and I’m not even a strings player. I’m not exaggerating either; it’s in so many commercials, weddings, movies, just over loudspeakers in the grocery store… ugh it’s inescapable. Pretty the first few times, sure, but it’s so aggressively bland.
proudblondto California•Governor Gavin Newsom Faces Major Rebellion Over Housing English3·24 days agoOkay so his thought is to cut back wage requirements for construction workers so that they can address the housing shortage by building housing quicker. Where are those construction workers going to fucking live while they build? They probably barely afford rent as it is! And you just know that the companies that employ them would happily pay them less but somehow make record profits…

My kids still have desks like these starting in about 4th grade.

So while I like the idea in theory, I’m betting some in our community will still be discriminated against, unfortunately.
I just listened to the first book, finished yesterday (it was a whopping three hours, as it’s really a novella). It seems the show is following the first book pretty closely. Some changes sure but the main plot line seems intact. Can’t speak for later books and of course all of the episodes aren’t released yet but it seems to be season 1 = book 1, which is All Systems Red.
Ha I get these exact same texts but in California
I never used Goodreads except to occasionally look up the name of an audiobook narrator or to read reviews; I never had an account. For me, BookWyrm fills the need for me in terms of tracking my own reading, and especially my TBR list. I don’t use it for anything else. I don’t post on a feed, and I barely make my ratings public. So yeah… probably not what you’re looking for but that’s all I wanted from it and it’s exactly what I got.
