Now that the /r/usenet mods essentially killed off the community without creating an ‘official’ backup community I wonder where to go? This seems like the lemmy community with the most subscribers at least. Or are there any other places around?
Thankfully archive.org has fairly recent copies of all the information in the wiki.
I believe there is a way to export Reddit data and import into Lemmy.
I’d be willing to try that out for your community. However, I’m the admin of https://discuss.online
I just looked into it. Doesn’t look like you can do this for private subreddits :( It makes sense, I guess.
The subreddit is public again, you probably should export it before it goes private again.
i am sure the usenet sub will be back but they really half assed it when they closed it. did they give like 8 hours notice? ironically usenet is the best place to go. this whole fediverse thing is like trying to recreate the wheel when you have usenet here already ready for the discussions. not sure if the masses could handle it though since there are no good apps.
there is a squabbles https://squabbles.io/s/usenet and a kbin https://kbin.social/m/usenet Seems like things are just fracturing so much though especially for a small sub like r/usenet
Several years back people upset with a Slashdot redesign started using comp.misc. It has maintained a decent level of activity. Could be something to try out.
Don’t have an answer but would also like to know.
Message the owner of NewsDemon. He will give you a free text only Usenet account.
But do you know which group in particular? I know there is alt.reddit.usenet but it is not a lot of message for now.
r/Usenet has mentioned the lemmy.world link on their community info tab so hopefully we see users coming here.
