I think it’s fine what they are doing.

Look, some people are not switching. But if they aren’t going to switch, more negative PR for Reddit is the most they can accomplish. We can speculate all we want about the abstract value of negative PR vs engagement, but at the very least I support this over them being there and silent about disliking it.

The members of a site openly despising the site itself encourages migration too. Keep the attention on how lothesome things are and people are more likely to drift away slowly over time.

Yeah, Reddit gets something like 52 million daily active users and 450 million monthly users. Lemmy has 500k total and 150k active.

Even if all of Lemmy went over and engaged with Reddit, it wouldn’t even be a blip compared to Reddit drawing a portion of their monthly users in. Especially when the discontent is over whether someone is contributing a fractional percent to the vagaries of engagement, and whether that meaningfully benefits Reddit, which is further predicated on this being a big brain move to collect engagement numbers and not Reddit flailing for anything to distract the community.

Might as well sneak a sign for Lemmy into there and use the unhappiness at Reddit to spread the news.

To be fair. I’ve been visiting to look at the art and drama i am just not participating or recovering my account. Its also yet another way for the staying community to vouch their disapproval.

The world is devided enough as it is, if we allow infighting where Lemmy pioneers on high horses look down on the mainstream reddit user that didnt migtate at once then there not going to want to come here and spez wins.

I am all for a Lemmymigration subreddits for the same reasons. As long as it leads to more valueble content being made here i dont give a fuck on how many traffic reddit gets.

You have a very healthy opinion on this and I must admit, you’re right with everything you’re saying. Yet I’m surprised how little was necessary to get over the past few months. Yes, there is protest on the canvas, but mainly it’s business as usual and a huge success for Reddit. Spez and others realised they need to do something to calm things down and people easily fell for this, especially those on the German subreddits. The canvas was still nearly blank when there was already a huge German flag present. Great job! /s

The germans have a very active r/place sub-community and discord they’ve been prepping for months. It was bound to happen.

Hmmmm, that sounds very much like eugenics. Which generally hasn’t been fronted by any free societies. Might wanna rethink your comment.

Oh man this gives me an idea for a great meme. Imagine place, Japan, but instead it’s “place, r/place”.

I don’t get it. Who does this apply to? Is this even a real person?

Who exactly knows enough to hate spez, yet would somehow get tempted back to reddit by r/place? No one. I haven’t seen any posts saying anything like that.

…are they? I’ve only seen posts showing the creation and then demise of spez on a guillotine.
