Why would you even want to be in a group that hates you.
Everyone needs to run as far away as possible from the mormons
Probably because everyone you’ve ever known is part of it and you’re terrified they’ll all disown you if you leave. That’s what happens when a cult metastasizes.
Exactly. This kind of cult stuff really harms the children that grow up in it. I feel bad for the kids, but I am actually quite supportive of the fact that these “rules” will push people out and away from the cult.
Hold a gun to someone’s head and they’ll do pretty much anything you say because they believe their life depends on it.
Morman’s preach that your eternal life depends on being part of their group. So for a transgender person who’s been brainwashed by the church, it’s like having a gun to your head. They don’t want to be in a group that hates them, but they’re afraid “god” will kill them of they leave the group.
They live in terror of being excommunicated (kicked out of the church) because they’ve been convinced that is equivalent to death. The amount of power that gives church leaders over the lives of the followers is staggering, and of course ridiculously abused.
Right but if you buy into that belief structure god is going to punish you anyway even if you do everything else right.
I’ve been asking women in religion that for years.
WTF would you expect from a group that teaches that gender is defined by God and God says there’s only two and that your gender is part of your spirit?
The rules read like a fucking committee got together to compromise on shit.
Chairman: ok, so I hear one side wants them excoriated to save their souls. And the other side says they’re just humans who want to be saved by the Jesus. Can we agree on low key shunning?
Its new rules, in addition to expanding on an existing rule that prevents transgender people from being baptized, also prohibit transgender people from working with children or serving as priests or teachers.
The church’s handbook states that those “who transition away from their biological sex at birth are welcome to attend sacrament meetings” and participate in “many other ways”. It also encourages these individuals and their families to confer with local leaders regarding their church participation. The new guidelines, however, significantly limit such participation.
The policy now states that members who have transitioned in any way — whether that transition is social, medical or surgical — cannot stay at youth camps overnight and may only use single-occupancy restrooms at church meetinghouses. Alternatively, a “trusted person” must be stationed outside the restroom to keep others from entering when a transgender person uses a restroom that aligns with their personal gender identity.
It sounds like they think being trans is a contagious disease that disproportionately infects children.
Isn’t it really depressing that this isn’t a surprise at all? That everyone is just “Well obviously.”
The same group that allow mix race couples in…(check notes) 1977! Don’t worry it only took them another …36 years to disavow it. But feel better :
Until 2013 at least one official church manual in use continued discouraging interracial marriages.[
Church leaders did not sanction White LDS women marrying Native American men, however.
I’m shocked that they ignore trans people, SHOCKED I SAID!
In other news, recent study reveals ground wet when raining
the Prop 8 bankrollers, folks.
In other news water is wet.
Every religion that ostracizes LGBT people should be ostracized.
“LGBTQ advocates say”? This seems objectively marginalizing.
