This shows a bit more than US direct, but still not too much. Looks very faithful to the original though. I am very excited about this. I am still going to continue with my current playthrough of Trails in the Sky, but I would love to play this remake.

James Galizio of RPGSite just shared some images from the Nintendo of Europe press kit which suggest the game will be using the XSEED script. Not a surprise; Falcom has a history of licensed/purchased scripts for their games.

Edit: continuing this thought, I’m seeing some interesting chatter that suggests Falcom might be self-publishing this in the West. That would be interesting. If true, that also puts the possibility of an English voice track in doubt.

Edit 2: small update published on Gematsu:

Update 08/28/24 at 1:10 a.m.: A Falcom representative has clarified the following platform and publishing-related information to Gematsu:

    • Platforms – “While the game has been announced for Nintendo Switch, a release on PlayStation and PC platforms is currently ‘to be determined.’ There is a possibility that it could be released on these platforms, and if that decision is made, it will be announced in a press release at a later date.”
    • Western Publisher – “At this time, the western publisher is ‘to be determined,’ which is why our company name was mentioned in the announcement. There is a possibility that we may handle distribution ourselves, but if arrangements are made with a local publisher, they would be responsible for distribution instead.”

The update kinda confuse me. Shouldn’t a decision for ps, pc already been made, you can’t just program that so fast. And maybe self publishing, kinda think there could be a lot goimg wrong.

To me the platform response is one of two things, either Falcom is 1) being evasive for Nintendo’s sake due to an exclusive marketing arrangement, or 2) they are planning on outsourcing at least the PC port again. They haven’t done PC development in-house for a while now. At this stage, that probably means it won’t be a simultaneous release.

I don’t know what to make of them possibly self-publishing. Could be a new direction for the company or it means they are shopping around.

Was this remake announced already? I’m kinda surprised we see a 2025 release windows alongside the japanese version.

No, I don’t think so. They are saying ‘update’, but I dont’ recall seeing any official announcement. Other than them answering that they would like to do a full remake instead of just port the game to modern consoles, in response to a question asked in an interview.

Yeah, Kondo had been dancing around it a while, but I think dev on this only more recently became urgent after seeing how much better the series is doing outside of Japan.

Which makes it so annoying that there isn’t a proper trailer. They didn’t give it proper respect in US direct…

Don’t know what the hell they were thinking with that. The whole issue with Trails in the West and greater Asia is how old tech makes it harder than it should be to start the series. This is pretty big news for the genre.
