The 2014 Google Glass debacle stigmatized smart glasses, but the devices may be poised for a comeback. Despite the failure of Google Glass, Meta and Google appear to be all in on the next generation of smart glasses that combine fashion, functionality, and generative AI into a compelling form factor.

I think the main issue with Google Glass was the creepiness factor of the camera. I feel for mainstream adoption, these devices shouldn’t include a camera, at least initially.

However, I personally haven’t heard much negative reaction to the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. Perhaps because they are so inconspicuous, people don’t realize they have cameras in them?

    Yes they could. Considering how long VR took to become more common, we still got like 15y. Now is not the time.

    Google Glass is from the early 2010s 2013/2014 ish. People have gotten (for better or worse) way more used to having cameras everywhere in public
