Hi everyone, i have a problem, my ASUS BW-16D1HT (Firmware 3.11) do not detect any UHD disc, standard blu ray, dvd, cd discs works fine. I’m using Linux Mint btw
From a quick Google it looks like a Blu-ray drive but you’d need a 4k one for UHD.
Yeah that is something that i do not understand, i keep finding that it should play UHD discs. Do you know how to check if a drive can read the UHD discs before buying?
OK, it should be doable but I see others have had the same problem. Try this guide.
Thank you, i’ll see what i can do.
Still nothing, sadly i think i’ll get a new compatible drive
The drive probably does support it, it has more to do with the firmware. I’m guessing you’re trying to rip them with MakeMKV?
No i use libbluray and libaacs, still the drive do not recognize the UHD discs
You need a specific Intel CPU that actually supports the DRM on those discs. I think playback only worked on Windows as well. I rip those discs to play them back on my Arch machine. That being said, I’d still expect the drive to read the discs. Have you looked into flashing the firmware of your drive?
Yeah tried to flash but no luck
I’m sorry to hear it’s not working. I don’t have any experience flashing these drives to be honest. I’ve never owned an Asus drive either. The LG ones definitely seem to be preferred however. I wish I could be more helpful.
No problem, thx
