He also chose to walk away from it and I usually consider it to be something out of their control, but maybe thats just me. judging by his brothers’ success he likely could have continued if he wanted to.

Eric Heiden 5 gold medals at just 21 years old. Retired shortly afterward to dabble in cycling and then become a mundane orthepedic surgeon.

Also Jerry Mather’s aka ‘The Beaver’ still milking his long ago celebrity decades later.

For Heiden? Absolutely! Way more then many athletes do in regular civilian life…

    Me.

I achieved all my dreams in late 20s. Travels, adventures, skills, relationships - whatever I wanted, I got it. I have nothing in life that I’d really want to see or try that I didn’t already.

Meanwhile, I peaked in kindergarten when I excelled in academics and was actually part of the popular group .-.

Me. I peaked the day my mother gave birth to me. It was all downhill from there

I don’t believe in the whole “peaking too early” thing, you can grow any day of your life, even if you’ve seen and done all, learn and open your eyes. “Peaking” after what standards? What does that even mean? Imo it’s like accepting your cognitive limits & that I could never and will never do as long as I breathe.

Lemmy… I can’t think of a more perfect example right now.

Well, maybe not peak, but definitely grow fast. It wasn’t ready for this kind of a growth spree.

It may have had a few technical issues with the influx, but in terms of the actual content and user base, it seems pretty good to me.

It’s like a much calmer version of Reddit.

Yeah, I was talking about the tech side of things, not the user base. The user base is great, can’t complain.
