I wonder what it does, as the HELP (FIRE/DOCTOR) field is elsewhere. Light my cigar? That would make more sense next to CIGARS & CIGARETTES.
The attendant feeds/tends the fire in your room’s fireplace.
These kinds of gadgets fascinate me. They were only useful for a short period of time before something else came along and obsoleted them. The Telharmonium was like this as well.
