Title. I’m relatively new to the game, only a few weeks in. I can see the power of Iridescent add-ons (silent bell as Wraith?? Woof!), but they are so expensive and rare I have no idea when to actually use them. I’d “save” them for an important game, but… it’s always just random opponents, so I have no idea if the Iri would be good or if I would stomp/get stomped either way and it’s a waste. Curious to hear from people who do use them, when do you decide to do it?
As you get experience in the game, they’re sort of “use whenever”. Some of them on some killers are broadly considered overpowered, like Myers’ Judith’s Tombstone addon, so some people regard them as less prestige for victory (and they’re banned in tournaments).
Ultimately, you’d need practice to figure out the best way to use them, so you may as well just play them and see what they combo well with.
In general, using iri add-ons as well as other rarities are usually just to change up your gameplay. It’s not really meant to be used at a certain interval like higher rank but when you want to have fun with a unique play style/enhancement. The game doesn’t tell you whether or not the other side will bring overpowered tools or equipment so you cannot preemptively attach these add-ons to counter them. It’s best just to use these as a fun diversion over than to rely on these add ons to win!
Follow-up question: when is the correct time to have fun? 😅
But in actuality thanks, I think this is a much better mindset to have. Rather than worry about optimizing, just decide every so often that I want to be OP and have a good ride
I’m in kind of the same boat as you, fairly new and hoarding atm. My take is that its best to stick to less powerfull add-ons until you’re very comfortable with the normal mechanics and then start using the ones that change up the mechanics more. That said, I don’t think there really is a right answer. Maybe throw them on for games where you are close to going up a grade, or for games where you’re running a good blood point offering like bloody party streamers. Just make sure you dont hoard them forever, it probably feels pretty bad to be a Billy with add-ons that were great before their changes, but only mediocre now
Huh didnt think about grade, that at least sorta makes sense. And I do agree that mastering (or at least getting good at) a char first is best, both so as not to waste the Iri and so you don’t use it as a crutch. But then again, maybe the crutch would be good for while you’re learning?
All I know is revealing survivors when they get slipstreamed would be huge tech, but I still have a while to go before I feel skilled enough to spend it lol
Right after I’ve gotten steamrolled by a toxic survive-with-chat team. Then I become filled with fury, equip some iri add-ons, and proceed to decimate the next team, which is invariably a bunch of friendly solos, and the complete opposite of the previous team who made me mad. And then I feel bad about it.
