From WildCareOklahoma

Meet WildCareOklahoma patient #24-3218, great horned owl. This is not a typical position for an owl. This one is being weighed. Taking and tracking patient weights is one of the most important protocols followed at WildCareOklahoma. Changes and trends in weight can indicate the patient is improving and moving toward release or that something may be wrong when weight is lost.

You may recognize this scale - it’s the same kind used in pediatricians’ offices!

This owl wants some belly rubs. I’m absolutely sure.

Edit: Is the scale set to lb or kg? I need to know how much anger and potential revenge we are dealing with here.

Just know those feet can grip with more force than a pitbull’s jaws before sticking your fingers there! 😜

Not to burst your bubble but belly rubs for most birds is a sexual thing. Best not to do it unless you want a horny bird.

Owl sex is pretty violent, so there’s not sure there’s too much difference for ya…

I’m going to venture to say it’s kg. A Great Horned Owl weighs between 2-4 pounds.

Sucking in those feathers makes a dramatic difference.

This is the one she really didnt want you to see:

I’ve been really appreciative of you guys lately too. I’ve kinda been down for the last few weeks, but I’ve always looked forward to sharing owl stuff with you guys.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through stuff. I hope it improves soon and you are the better, after. It’s good to have people, places and hobbies to brighten cloudy days, and I’m glad we can be part of that, for each other. If there’s anything we can do, even just be a sounding board, please don’t hesitate to share. Maybe we can find solutions, maybe not; but we can be supportive, either way. Not saying you want to or that it’s always appropriate to put our stuff online; just that sometimes it can lighten the load.

Either way, we’re here for you. Thanks again.

I appreciate the moral support! I believe it’s mainly due to changes to my routine throwing off my sleep. I don’t sleep enough to begin with, so it doesn’t take much to really get me out of whack.

I’ve been making sure to have it with my friends and my piano class is back for the fall semester now too.

Is there a talon missing on the left foot, or is it just an odd camera angle?

Good eye. I noticed that this morning as well. That’d be something I think they would have commented on, as those feet are critical to their survival.

I did a quick and dirty Zoom and Enhance and now you can see it. It’s just under some belly floof. You can see the grippy texture on the underside of the foot now as well, so that’s a bonus!

If you can fit it on a baby scale, then it’s gotta be a baby. It’s not a baby and whatever else you feel like, perhaps an owl, why not, let’s be a little ridiculous scale. We live in a civil society, people dont just stick whatever they find in places babies are supposed to go.

Yup, owls are about 40-60% air by volume. You really don’t get your money’s worth with owls.

They are the hollow chocolate bunny of the animal kingdom.

I always thought this pic was fake

Now take away the floof from the top and you have an almost human shaped owl running around.
