Humans haven’t really changed; we’ve just made ourselves fancier toys.

Wait, I thought cats were mostly spread around the world (from Africa) with the pre-Egyptians, then the actual Egyptians and finally the Greeks? House cats at least. Bigger species probably spread much earlier.

The Jōmon period lasted longer than stated here. According to Wikipedia, it lasted from 14000 BCE (so 16000 years ago) to around 300 BCE (i.e. ~2300 years ago).

Yeah it probably wasnt modeled after a domesticated cat. Looks like there could’ve been leopard cats in Japan around then, or could be a weasel or fox or something , a lot of carnivores have pointy ears like that.

Cats were brought to Japan with Buddhism, I believe.

Buddhism is also much younger than 8500 years, and its arrival in Japan much more recent again.

That would still put it at under 7,000 years old.

Makes sense. Cats back then most likely still carried that cat lady bacteria and infected people with it.
