I know it’s a bit late, but we are having another Friday the 13th in December if I am not mistaken. Also, never a bad time to watch movies. Do any of these look interesting to you guys, or have you already seen any of them?

In A Violent Nature is great - some top-notch kills that were well worth seeing with an audience.

The Crow is just badly made and, other than one nice sequence, not worth watching, especially.

Speak No Evil looks to be a rather pointless remake of a recent film (that I haven’t seen) which James McAvoy makes worthwhile.

The others seem like streaming fodder, I may watch the zombie wedding one at some point out of morbid curiosity but there are so many good films out or just about ti be released that they are probably wasting your time. I enjoyed Cuckoo and was surprised to find Trap worked (both still might be on some screens), and I am really looking forward to The Substance (looks like Friday) and Strange Darking (probably the following Thursday). I’m also booked into the Terrifier double bill and am looking forward ti the Shaun of the Dead anniversary.

Speak No Evil is allegedly a hollywood remake with a stereotypical ending, whereas the original is more…uh… thought provoking.

The original director admitted that the Hollywood version is more suitable for an audience, but also declined the offer of directing it himself for the same reason.

Yeah, we are planning on watching the Zombie Wedding. Looks dumb as hell, and I’m here for that. The meta slasher also caught my eye, but I haven’t watched much in the horror genre in general so a lot of things are still new to me

Must be quite exciting a there are a lot of fantastic films ahead of you are we’re here to help: “we have such sights to show you” (Hellraiser - one for your list). As you watch note, you’ll discover what works for you and we can drill down in our recommendations.

It’s a great year to start - as well as the ones I mentioned we’ve also had Longlegs, Late Night With the Devil and Abigail. As well as Quiet Place: Day One, The First Omen and Lisa Frankenstein.

We watched more Hellraisers than we probably should have lol. Big favorite for my partner. I liked the first maybe 3 I think

I’ve started both Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street series, I don’t know if I made it in more than a movie or two for each so far. We watch a lot of random shit. Happy Death Day was fun, but I hated the sequel

What a let down to see this remake of Speak no Evil! I saw the original, that was honestly one of the most terifying films that i have seen in ages, and then this, was turned into a happy ending!

Honestly, if you are into horror, i recommend watching the original Speak no Evil. It is a highly unpleasant movie to have seen, but really a horror movie from the top shelf!

Looks interesting. Are you able to elaborate on unpleasant with out spoiling anything?

I’d rather not, but the very interesting thing is comparing the original, to the popularized version. I would suggest watching both actually. I would not call it unpleasant as in offensive or over the edge. It just exposes some natural human action and reactions to being exposed to a crisis. Psychologically, humans will, when presented to a thread, either fight, freeze or run away.

The original movie is in Danish, but I am sure that you will be able to find subtitles for it. There is some nudity, but among horror movie lovers, I would not call it over the edge. I can really recommend watching both though.

Fair enough. I’ll have to see how my partner feels. Subtitles are a tough sell

I read an interview of the director, who said that the plot of the original is also hard to sell to the world market. Still, it may be a good look into the difference of commercially tailored horror movies and honest psychological horror.

For me, the toe crumbling realizations of me likely reacting like the victims do, made it really relatable, and it not ending with a happy ending like the commercial version does, was really unpleasant
